Which Lead Generation Options You Should Say Yes To?

“When you say yes, you are saying no to infinity minus one.”

Episode Summary

Why Saying No Makes You More Money in Real Estate

Welcome to the No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents podcast blog. I’m Dan Rochon, and today, we’re unpacking something simple—but game-changing:

When you say yes, you're saying no to infinity minus one.

Now, what does that mean for you as a real estate agent? It means every yes is a trade-off. And if you’re not clear on what you're trading your time for, you’re likely giving up money, momentum, and sanity.

Let me explain.

The Truth About “Yes”

Saying yes feels productive. You agree to coffee with a potential vendor. You sign up for a new software tool. You volunteer for a local committee. None of those are bad in isolation—but together, they’re stealing your attention from what actually drives income.

Here’s the kicker:
When you say yes to something, you're saying no to everything else you could’ve done in that moment.

That includes:

  • Lead generating

  • Negotiating a deal

  • Meeting a new client

  • Practicing scripts

  • Securing listings

That’s why the difference between agents who win and those who struggle isn't work ethic—it’s focus. It’s the power of no.

The 5 Money-Making Activities in Real Estate

If you're not sure what to say yes to, here's my non-negotiable list. These five are the only activities that directly grow your income:

  1. Lead generate

  2. Convert leads to appointments

  3. Go on appointments (to get hired)

  4. Show homes & negotiate contracts

  5. Practice your scripts and roleplay

That’s it. Everything else is noise—unless you’ve got those five on lock first.

You Only Need Three Lead Gen Strategies (But Start With One)

There are more than 150 lead generation strategies out there. YouTube, door knocking, client events, social media, open houses—you name it.

All of them could work. But if you chase all of them at once, you’ll end up with nothing.

Pick three. Master one. Then move to the next.

Success doesn’t come from saying yes to every opportunity. It comes from protecting your yes.

Final Thoughts

Steve Jobs once said that focus isn’t about saying yes to the thing you want—it’s about saying no to 100 other great ideas.

So let’s bring it back to you. Are you chasing too many good ideas? Or are you focused on the great ones that move the needle?

Here’s your challenge:
Take inventory of what you're saying yes to this week. If it’s not one of those five money-making activities, it’s time to respectfully say no.

Thanks for joining me here on the No Broke Months journey. Until next time—
Be grateful. Make good choices. Help someone. And go find that next listing.
