11 Ways to Believe in Yourself
“So continue asking yourself, what's important to me about that... until you come to a place of something that sings to your heart. That’s going to be your new compass.”
- Dan Rochon
Episode Summary
Belief Isn’t Optional in Sales—It’s Essential
Working in real estate can feel like a roller coaster. One moment you’re confident and closing deals, and the next, you’re doubting whether you can make it to the end of the month.
When I started in sales, I didn’t have a deep “why” or a master plan. I just knew I didn’t want to wait tables anymore. That was enough to push me forward.
But over the years, I’ve learned something powerful: belief in yourself isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build.
And if you’re not building it on purpose, setbacks will tear it down.
That’s why I shared these 11 tools on the No Broke Months for Real Estate Agents podcast. These are the same practices I’ve leaned on to stay grounded when things get tough. And they’ll work for you too.
Reframe the Failure
Think about a moment in your sales career when you felt like you completely dropped the ball. Got it?
Now rewrite it.
Instead of calling it a failure, view it as a moment that taught you something. Every successful agent I’ve met has a story like that—what sets them apart is how they interpret it.
Understand the Source of Doubt
Self-doubt doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. It usually stems from old beliefs about who we are or what we think we’re worth.
The next time you feel overwhelmed, ask yourself this question:
“What do I believe that’s making me feel this way?”
That simple reflection can shift everything.
Acknowledge Your Strengths
Confidence isn’t about pretending you have it all together—it’s about appreciating what you bring to the table.
Write down three things you love about yourself. Do it without editing, without judgment.
The more you practice this, the more you’ll stop waiting for outside validation.
Change Your Mental Programming
Your thoughts create your feelings. Your feelings fuel your actions. Your actions lead to results—and those results reinforce your programming.
If you want to shift your results, start by changing your daily inputs.
I use meditation, affirmations, visualization, movement, and reading to shape my mindset. You don’t need to do all five every day. Even one or two is a win.
What matters most is consistency.
Spend Time With People Who Lift You Up
Think about someone in your life who makes you feel like you matter.
Now ask yourself—could you spend one more hour with them this week?
That’s how you rewire your belief system. Surround yourself with voices that strengthen you.
Build a Mental Board of Directors
When I’m stuck, I turn to mentors—some of them from history.
One of my favorites is Sun Tzu, author of The Art of War. When I hit a wall, I imagine asking him for advice. He reminds me:
“Don’t fight battles you know you’ll lose.”
So who would be on your board? Pick someone you admire. Learn about them. Let them guide you in your thoughts, especially when no one’s around to give advice.
Stop Comparing
Let’s be honest—we’ve all judged someone on social media without knowing them. What’s really happening there is comparison.
You’re comparing your real life to their highlight reel.
So next time that happens, try this instead: find one trait about them you can appreciate. It changes the narrative in your mind—and puts the focus back on your own growth.
Embrace Your Fear
Here’s a wild truth: you are made of 37.2 trillion cells. You are both magnificent and insignificant.
That paradox gives you power. It reminds you that fear will always exist—but it doesn’t have to lead.
You can be afraid and still take action.
Know Why You’re Doing This
If you’ve worked with me before, you’ve heard this one: ask yourself “Why?” again and again.
Why are you in sales? What’s important about that? And what’s important about that?
Keep going until something clicks so deeply that you feel it in your chest. That’s when you’ve found your true reason—and when you do, you’ll never sell the same way again.
Learn Something New
Confidence grows when you grow.
If there’s a skill you’ve been wanting to learn—whether it’s how to handle objections or how to negotiate—start now.
Even 15 minutes a day builds belief over time.
Do the Thing You’ve Been Avoiding
You already know what it is.
That one thing you’ve been meaning to do. That project, that phone call, that decision.
Write it down. Decide what you’re going to do about it. Then take one step today.
You don’t need a massive breakthrough. You just need momentum.
Final Thoughts
Self-belief isn’t about being perfect or fearless.
It’s about showing up again and again, even when it’s hard—especially when it’s hard.
So here’s what I’d love for you to remember:
Be grateful.
Make good choices.
Help someone.
Have the best day of your life.
And you’ll find a listing.
