How Your Beliefs Can Affect Your Future
"My words became my reality. I could’ve stayed in the suck—or I could choose gratitude. I chose gratitude."
- Dan Rochon
Episode Summary
You ever notice how the hardest lessons are the ones that teach you the most?
There was a moment in my journey—a tough one. I’d just let go of a team leader who was, let’s say, not easy to align with. Her style was polarizing. Rigid. And the fallout? Brutal. Top agents left. I was on the receiving end of more than a few spitballs. I felt it financially, emotionally, and spiritually.
If I hadn’t had six months of reserves in the bank, I’d have been finished.
But even in the middle of all that chaos, I said to myself: "I’m so freaking grateful I’m learning this now—so I don’t have to learn it again."
That decision, right there? That’s what shaped everything after.
Because here’s the truth:
Your beliefs become your thoughts.
Your thoughts become your words.
Your words become your actions.
Your actions become your habits.
Your habits become your values.
And your values? They shape your destiny.
(Gandhi said that, and he knew a thing or two about influence.)
Let’s Break That Down – Real Estate Style
There are agents who hit a wall and say, “I’m not cut out for this.”
There are others who hit the same wall and say, “Good. Now I know what not to do again.”
Your belief system writes the script.
A few days ago, I held an open house. Got zero buyers from it. But I loved doing it. And I know—if I hosted two or three of those each weekend—I’d build a thriving buyer business. Why? Because I believe it works. I believe I create results through repetition and presence.
Some people believe tech can’t live alongside real conversations.
Some people believe they can’t show up fully if they don’t have a polished pitch.
Belief sets the stage. Thought takes the first step. Words give it voice. And once you act on it, the chain begins.
Here's Where It Gets Real
Years ago, I chose not to fight back when people criticized me. I didn’t try to fix my reputation—I just kept being who I was.
In retrospect? I probably should’ve stood up for myself more.
But the habit I built from that moment forward was this:
Lead with love. Don’t compromise your values. Trust that the right people will come.
And guess what? They did.
Whether you’re training for a triathlon (like I was recently), or trying to close your next deal, your results are shaped by the habits you’ve practiced. My sore legs reminded me I hadn't run enough to feel good after a race—but that’s not failure. That’s feedback. Your business works the same way.

I chose gratitude. And because of that, I kept going.
