They Ghosted You Because You Sound Like Everyone Else

“If your message looks like it was meant for everyone, it won’t matter to anyone.”

- Dan Rochon

Break the script and get real responses

You followed up.
You were polite.
You even said “just checking in.”

And then… nothing.

Here’s the thing: most leads aren’t ignoring you because they’re rude or uninterested. They’re ignoring you because your message didn’t feel like it was meant for them. It sounded like a hundred others they’ve seen.

Why Scripts Fail (When They’re Too Generic)

Scripts can be useful—but only as a starting point. If you copy them word-for-word, they become predictable. And predictable gets ignored.

  • “Just following up.”

  • “Let me know when’s a good time to connect.”

  • “I wanted to check in and see if you had any questions.”

These aren’t wrong. They’re just...forgettable.

What to Say Instead

1. Reference something specific.
Start with something personal—something you actually remember from your last conversation or message exchange. Even if it was weeks ago.

Instead of:

“Just checking in to see if you’re still interested.”

Try:

“Last time we talked, you mentioned timing was a big concern. Has anything changed on your end?”

2. Acknowledge the silence.
Being honest and human beats being overly polished.

“I know I’ve sent a few messages—totally get it if now’s not the right time. Want me to circle back in a few weeks?”

3. Keep the door open without begging.
Let them breathe. A message that doesn’t pressure tends to stand out more than one that insists.

“If this isn’t a priority right now, no worries. I’ll be here when it is.”

Why This Works

When you sound like a person—not a pitch—you activate curiosity. The lead might not be ready to say “yes” yet, but they’ll at least feel compelled to respond. And that’s the point. Conversations lead to conversions. Silence doesn’t.

Final Thoughts
If you want real responses, stop sounding like everyone else. Break the script. Speak like a human. And remember: people respond to people—not templates.
