How to Create Strong Connections Through Energy
“Connection isn’t just about what you say—it’s how you show up with your energy.”
- Dan Rochon
Episode Summary
Simple strategies real estate agents can use to make lasting impressions through body language, energy, and anchoring.
Have you ever wondered why some conversations feel effortless and impactful—while others fall flat? That’s not a coincidence. It’s energy.
When we talk about connecting with clients, most people think about scripts, listing presentations, or lead generation. But the most overlooked skill? The ability to physically and energetically match the person you’re speaking with.
Let’s break this down into a few key things I use and teach inside the CPI Communication Model.
✔ Mirror Their Energy and Posture
If someone you’re speaking with is sitting back with their arms crossed, and you’re leaned in with fast, animated speech—you’ve already created disconnection.
But when you:
Match their physical presence (without copying),
Mirror their gestures,
Use similar inflection, volume, and pace in your voice...
...you start to feel like you’re on the same team. That's rapport.
✔ Anchor the Interaction
Here’s a small hack that’s surprisingly effective: use anchors.
I do this when I introduce myself. Instead of quickly saying my full name, I pause:
Dan... (pause)... Rochon.
That slight delay creates a moment. It sticks.
I had a conversation with an agent, Allison, about this exact technique. A week later, at an event, someone I had never met before asked, “Oh, are you here with Dan Rochon?” That anchor—whether heard in a video, passed along by someone else, or absorbed from a story—landed.
That’s the power of a subtle anchor. It creates memory and presence even when you’re not in the room.
✔ Understand Subjective Experience in Communication
Here's where things get deep. Every interaction has at least three interpretations:
What you think is happening,
What the other person thinks is happening,
And what an observer might perceive.
Add to that a greater awareness—that we’re all connected on some level—and communication becomes less about the words, and more about the resonance.
When people say “communication is the response you get,” they’re talking about alignment. Energy alignment. Perception alignment. And yes, verbal alignment too.
✔ Practical Tip for Today
Before your next conversation, pay attention to the energy of the room. Instead of jumping in with your usual rhythm, observe first. Match second. Lead last.
You don’t have to be someone else. You just have to step into their world briefly—so you can guide them into yours.
Whether it’s on a listing appointment, phone call, or first showing—these small energetic bridges help build trust, presence, and influence.
And that? That’s how you create real connections that last.
