Understanding the Meaning of Success

"I don't care if you leap on your steps or even if it's an inch apart. For me, even if it's an inch and you're moving towards that worthy goal that aligns with my definition of success."

Defining Success: It’s About Progress, Not Perfection

Success is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot, but what does it really mean? For some, it's wealth. For others, it's recognition. But here's my take on it: success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal.

The key words here? Progressive realization. That means success isn’t some final destination. It’s not about hitting a certain number in your bank account or receiving an award. It’s about movement. As long as you're taking steps—no matter how small—toward a meaningful goal, you're successful.

The Ingredients of Success

To be successful, you need two things:

  1. A worthy goal

  2. Steps toward that goal

It doesn’t matter if those steps are leaps or just tiny shuffles. Forward is forward. The size of the step doesn’t define success—consistent movement does.

Success in Business vs. Life

When it comes to business, my definition of success is simple: Create a business that no longer depends on you. A great example of this is a BNI networking group I started 15 years ago. That group runs independently of me, yet I still benefit from it. That, to me, is business success.

But personal success? That’s different. It’s about defining a mission and consistently moving toward it.

Your Conscious vs. Unconscious Mind

Many people think their conscious mind drives them toward success. That’s not true. Your conscious mind is the goal setter, but your unconscious mind is the goal getter. If your unconscious beliefs don’t align with your goal, you’ll struggle to make real progress.

So, clarity is everything. Define your worthy goal. Train your unconscious mind to believe in it. Then take action—one step at a time.

Defining Your Mission

Here’s a simple way to craft your own mission:

  1. Identify your worthy goal (For me, it's helping others achieve their dreams.)

  2. Define how you'll achieve it (I do this through writing, teaching, and mentorship.)

  3. Understand that missions evolve (Your mission today might not be the same a year from now.)

My mission in real estate? Helping 250 buyers, sellers, and investors this year. My mission in CPI coaching? Growing the community to 1,000 members. And the steps? Running 12 five-day events and having two conversations with agents daily.

Keep Moving Forward

Success isn’t about arriving. It’s about moving. Whether your steps are big or small, what matters is that you’re heading toward something meaningful. Keep going, and success will follow.
