How to Focus on Activity and Remove Emotion in Real Estate - Dan Rochon
"Faith in the process is the bridge between frustration and long-term success."
– Dan Rochon
Episode Summary
Stay Productive by Shifting Focus from Results to Actions
In real estate, it’s easy to get emotionally tied to outcomes, especially when things aren’t going as planned. However, letting emotions take over can cloud your judgment and affect your performance. The key is to shift your focus away from the results and concentrate on the activity.
Episode Notes
Why Focusing on Activity is Important
Many real estate professionals experience feelings of guilt or frustration when results don’t materialize immediately. But here's the reality: as long as you’ve done your job—whether it’s making calls, following up with leads, or conducting showings—you’ve succeeded for the day.
The trick is to pull emotions out of the process. When your emotions are tied to immediate outcomes, you set yourself up for disappointment. Instead, concentrate on your daily tasks. If you focus on the activity itself, the results will come in time.
Blind Faith vs. Absolute Faith
When you're new to real estate, it can feel like you're working on blind faith—doing the work without yet seeing consistent results. Over time, however, this faith evolves into something stronger: absolute faith. This comes from knowing that if you put in the work, the results will follow because you’ve seen it happen over and over.
But until you’ve built that confidence, you must lean into blind faith. Trust that as long as you stay focused on your tasks, the success you want will eventually materialize. Don’t let judgment get in your way, because self-judgment only slows you down.
Detach Emotion from the Outcome
At the end of the day, the outcome is just a byproduct of your work. If you did what you were supposed to do, then you’ve done enough. Emotionally detaching from the result can free you from the highs and lows of daily performance. Instead of letting an unbooked appointment drag you down, focus on how much effort you put into your tasks.
Faith, whether in yourself, your process, or something larger, gives you the strength to keep going even when the results aren’t immediately visible. The key is to stay consistent, trust the process, and understand that over time, your hard work will pay off.
